A fire spread in the Upper Peninsula closing trails and grounds

A slew of trails and campsites are closed in the Upper Peninsula after a wildfire grew across 10 acres of land on Saturday.

Early in the afternoon Saturday, staff at Isle Royale National Park received reports of a large cloud of smoke coming from an area at Three Mile campground, according to a news release on Sunday.

After firefighters at the park found a small fire burning, visitors were evacuated from Three Mile campground and Lane Cove campground and other campers were contacted in the area for extra safety.

Later in the evening, an engine air tanker from Minnesota flew in to help prevent more damage, dropping five loads of water on the fire, said the news release. Additional fire crews and resources are set to come to the park on Aug. 14.
