Activision Already Tease Call of Duty 2023

Call of Duty is one of the biggest first-person shooter franchises of all time. Ever since 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare showed us what was possible, the series has been a leading contender in the online shooter market. Even if you consider the 2007 game-changer to be the peak, you can’t deny the popularity of the series; the prolific release rate, and the success of each release.

It should be no surprise that, even before the remake of Modern Warfare II (which is slated for release on October 28th this year), Activision are already teasing a brand new game for next year.

Check out the worldwide reveal trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, released October 28th this year.

Activision released a statement saying “Across the Call of Duty ecosystem, the teams are well positioned to support these launches with substantial live operations, while also continuing development of new premium content planned for 2023 and beyond.”

New premium content sounds promising. However, games journalist Jason Schreier thinks we shouldn’t get our hopes up. He said on Twitter that “For 2023 I’d expect new paid (“premium”) content for Modern Warfare 2, not a brand new Call of Duty. Treyarch is leading the next mainline game, which was delayed to 2024, as Bloomberg reported earlier this year.”

The acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft is also expected to be a done-deal next year, so this new release might be the first COD since the huge buyout. Whether the new game is next year, or the year after, we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait. It’s also still uncertain how much material will be Microsoft exclusive following the buyout. Whatever happens next year, though, it’s always fun for us to have plans teased so early, especially when we’re still impatiently waiting for Modern Warfare II.
