“Ice-in” was declared on Lake Winnipesaukee Sunday, according to Emerson Aviation. Emerson Aviation said the extreme cold over the weekend and the calming winds overnight into Sunday morning helped to make it happen. The declaration means all five ports visited by the M/S Mount Washington are covered with ice.Emerson Aviation stress that people should stay off the ice since it’s still transparent and likely two inches thick, at most. With above freezing temperatures forecasted this week, they said “ice-out” might begin soon. The organization said 2001 was the only year that they can recall there was not an “ice-in,” and this is the latest date for one to be declared. Last year, “ice-in” was declared on Jan. 18.
