Milk Crate Challenge: The back-breaking new internet trend that’s sweeping social media

Don’t try this at home. No, seriously…

If you’ve seen people walking on — and quite often falling from — milk crates as you navigate your social media feed recently, you’re not alone.

Unlike previous crazes like dabbing or the Harlem shake, the internet’s new trend is a seriously dangerous balance challenge where participants attempt to walk up and down a staircase of stacked crates.

The aim of the game is to do so without falling.

But as many of the videos circulating on the internet have shown, that’s easier said than done – especially when they’re stacked seven high and on questionable surfaces.

For every participant who completes the challenge, there are many more who fall – and fall hard.

Compilation videos of the heavy stacks from those failing to navigate the rickety milk crate courses have gone viral on social media, racking up thousands of views.

Clips of the challenge have been springing up in recent weeks, although the inspiration for the challenge has been traced back to a Joyrider TV YouTube challenge a decade ago.

With injuries a serious risk, some have turned to having gymnstics-style spotters ready to catch them should things go awry – as they often do.

“How long until someone breaks their neck doing this stupid challenge,” one Twitter user pondered.

Another said: “We play cornhole at my family cookouts, but everyone has their own traditions I guess.”

The memes have also followed, with many realising how outlandish the challenge is.

Take in some of the best below.
