About an hour earlier, Kyrgios secure his 7th career trophy by beating Yoshihito Nishioka in the singles final and he stepped out to play some doubles. Kyrgios and Sock have played doubles in the past and they have won trophies together with one more coming to that tally.
They played Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek, two very strong doubles players and dominated play with their serves. The courts here make it very tough to return properly and Sock and Kyrgios thrived on that. It was a fairly comfortable win for them 7-5 6-4.
Kyrgios is now 4-0 in doubles finals this year and he was very happy about it wanting to keep the momentum going:
“I’m really happy to take home both titles. Hopefully I can keep this momentum going.”
Sock added a couple of thoughts as well thanking Kyrgios for toughing it out until the end:
“I’ve got to thank Nick for sticking it out. Most guys wouldn’t do
that. It’s fairly hot and humid here in D.C. so I wasn’t expecting him
to be too fresh for the doubles. He came out with full energy every
time, which says a lot about what [he’s] doing on and off the court,
They are now 19-4 as a team overall and 4-1 this year.
