Freeze possible on the Northshore Monday morning

A freeze watch has been issued from 7 pm Sunday until 10 am Monday

Updated: 11:42 AM CDT Mar 18, 2023

THE TIME IS 943. LET’S TALK ABOUT THE WEATHER NOW. AND IT’S NOT LIKE A BAD MORNING OUTSIDE IS JUST COLD, ALTHOUGH THAT LOOKS A LITTLE STORM. YEAH, WE’RE WATCHING RAIN MOVE THROUGH. IT’S A COLD RAIN AND WE HAVE REPORTS OF SLEET OUT THERE. THIS MORNING. I KNOW ACROSS OUR AREA ON THE NORTH OR EVEN ON THE SOUTH SHORE IN PLACES LIKE METAIRIE, WE HAVE HAD REPORTS OF SLEET. THIS IS LOOKING WEST AND YOU CAN SEE ON RADAR, THAT’S WHERE OUR SHOWERS ARE MOVING IN FROM. SO WE DO HAVE THIS COLD RAIN THAT’S BRUSHING OVER PORTIONS OF THE NORTH SHORE. WE HAD SLEET REPORTS AND COVINGTON MADISONVILLE ALSO PEARL RIVER. NOW, THIS IS CONTINUING TO PUSH OFF TO THE EAST MORE OF THIS SHOWER ACTIVITY OFF INTO OUR MISSISSIPPI COUNTIES AS WELL. AND OVER INTO TANGIPAHOA PARISH, WE ALSO HAVE THIS ONE SHOWER THAT’S MOVED THROUGH THE INDEPEND INCE AREA AND AGAIN ABOVE OUR HEADS THERE IS A LAYER OF COLD AIR THAT’S COLD ENOUGH TO ACTUALLY FREEZE SOME OF THESE WATER DROPLETS INTO ICE PELLETS. SO WE HAVE HAD REPORTS OF SLEET. WE HAVE MORE OF THIS RAIN MOVING IN OUR DIRECTION. SO LIKELY SOME MORE SHOWER ACTIVITY ON THE NORTH SHORE THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS. TEMPERATURES AT THE SURFACE NOT FREEZING, BUT WE ARE SITTING IN THE FORTIES AND THE FIFTIES. IT IS COLD OUT THERE. WE’RE AT 49 DEGREES IN BOGALUSA, SLIDELL AND GULFPORT FIFTIES FOR THOSE OF YOU ON THE SOUTH SHORE AND THE BREEZE IS BLOWING, MAKING IT FEEL EVEN COLDER. WE HAVE A 28 MILE PER HOUR WIND AT THE LAKEFRONT AND 18 MILE PER HOUR WIND AT THE AIRPORT, 12 MILE PER HOUR BREEZE AND BOGALUSA AND IN HAMMOND AND GUST ARE EVEN STRONGER THAN THAT. SO WE’VE CLOCKED A 30 MILE PER HOUR GUSTS IN HOUMA AND A 22 MILE PER HOUR GUST IN SLIDELL. SO WE DO HAVE A GALE WARNING THAT’S IN EFFECT UNTIL 12:00 THIS AFTERNOON FOR COASTAL AREAS. THERE’S A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FOR THE AREA LAKES AND THEN THE GALE WARNING WILL BECOME A SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY ONCE IT EXPIRES AT NOON. AND THAT SMALL CRAFT ADVISORY WILL GO UNTIL 1:00 TOMORROW AFTERNOON. OVERALL, TODAY, IT STAYS CHILLY. MOSTLY CLOUDY, BREEZY WITH WINDS 10 TO 20 MILES AN HOUR, GUSTS UP TO AROUND 30 MILES AN HOUR. AND WE WILL CONTINUE TO SEE ISOLATED TO SCATTERED SHOWERS THROUGHOUT THE DAY TODAY. SO THROUGH THE MORNING HOURS AND THEN INTO THE AFTERNOON, THESE SCATTERED SHOWERS WILL CONTINUE ACROSS THE NORTH SHORE. MORE DOWN INTO THE SOUTH TOWARD THIS ONE MODEL WANTS TO SHOW US. AND THEN EVENTUALLY INTO THE EVENING WILL START TO CLEAR OUT BY 9:00, TEMPERATURES ALREADY FALLING DOWN INTO THE FORTIES FOR A LOT OF YOU. AND OVERNIGHT TONIGHT, IT WILL GET COLD TOMORROW MORNING WILL BE COLDER THAN THIS MORNING WITH THE LOWS IN THE THIRTIES AND FORTIES, SKIES WILL START OUT MOSTLY CLOUDY AND BECOME MOSTLY CLEAR. IT WILL BE BREEZY FOR A LOT OF YOU, ESPECIALLY ON THE SOUTH SHORE. BUT ON THE NORTH SHORE, IF THE WIND CALMS DOWN ENOUGH, WE COULD SEE SOME FROST OUT THERE IN THE MORNING. THE AVERAGE LOW THIS TIME OF YEAR IS 56 DEGREES. SO WE ARE MUCH COLDER THAN NORMAL TOMORROW MORNING AND THAT IS GOING TO CONTINUE FOR A COUPLE MORE MORNINGS. SO TOMORROW AFTERNOON WE’RE SITTING IN THE FIFTIES YET AGAIN AT LEAST IT WILL BE A LITTLE BIT SUNNIER. WE’LL HAVE MOSTLY SUNNY SKIES, STILL BREEZY OUT THERE FOR A LOT OF YOU AND STILL CHILLY HIGHS ANYWHERE FROM 51 TO 56 DEGREES. AND THEN IT’S TOMORROW NIGHT INTO MONDAY MORNING. THAT IS OUR COLDEST MORNING. SO WE COULD HAVE TEMPERATURES IN THE UPPER TWENTIES AND LOW THIRTIES ACROSS THE NORTH SHORE AND THEN UPPER THIRTIES TO AROUND 40 DEGREES. FOR THOSE OF YOU ON THE SOUTH SHORE. SO FROST POSSIBLE ON THE SOUTH SHORE, BUT A FREEZE POSSIBLE ON THE NORTH SHORE. EVERYONE FROM OUR RIVER PARISHES OVER INTO COASTAL MISSISSIPPI, YOU ARE UNDER A FREEZE WATCH THAT GOES INTO EFFECT 7:00 TOMORROW EVENING AND LAST UNTIL 10 A.M. MONDAY. SO IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE VEGETATION, YOU HAVE TO COVER IT UP. WE’VE ALREADY HAD THINGS BLOOMING AND THIS WOULD FREEZE IT. NOW NOTICE HOW QUICKLY WE DO START TO WARM UP. SO IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR THE WARM WEATHER, IT’S BACK BY WEDNESDAY, HIGHS WILL
