Rhode Island Gov. McKee asks residents to stay home during Henri

Henri appears to be on track to make landfall in Rhode Island and the state’s governor on Sunday asked residents to stay home. Gov. Dan McKee said the state expects significant impacts including high winds, flooding and loss of power. “I’m asking you, Rhode Island, to stay home until this storm passes,” McKee said during a morning briefing. McKee also issued a ban on motorcycles and tractor-trailers from state roadways, except those carrying emergency supplies, starting at 11 a.m. Check the latest Henri forecast The Town of Westerly also asked residents and visitors to shelter in place and stay off roadways until the storm passes. According to the 10 a.m. NHC update, the center of the storm was located about 60 miles south of Providence. Henri’s maximum sustained winds were measured at 65 mph. Forecasters say the storm was moving toward the north-northwest at approximately 14 miles per hour.After landfall is made, the National Hurricane Center expects Henri to turn to the north at a slower forward speed as it moves over southern New England.
