BERKELEY, Calif. (WKRC) – For the first time, the death of a red supergiant was filmed by scientists on Thursday. Northwestern University and the University of California scientists say that the star’s explosive death has been a “breakthrough” in understanding how stars die. The red supergiant known as SN 2020tlf was found by the University of Hawai’i Institute for AstronomyPan-STARRS on Maui in the summer of 2020 due to the amount of light it produced, according to a press release.
