Tell us about your experience with virtual reality therapy in Tampa Bay

Mental health counselors are using virtual reality therapy to treat anxiety, phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Using a headset in a therapist’s office, people can enter simulations to relax, try to conquer overwhelming fears or relive traumatic events in an attempt to heal.

There’s also at least one phone app available for those who want to stay home, join a virtual world and try to alleviate concerns about heights, flying or public speaking.

The Tampa Bay Times wants to hear from people who have used this technology for counseling or meditation — especially those assisted by mental health professionals.

Did it help you? Do you prefer virtual simulations compared to traditional talk and exposure therapy? Or was the treatment disorientating and not a good fit?
