Las Vegas Market’s proprietary FIRST LOOK forecast features three new trends – “Community,” “Fantasy” and “Reality” – inspired by technology, lifestyle directions and popular colors. These trends will showcase relevant Las Vegas Market exhibitor products through virtual and in-person programming, onsite displays and a digital guide before and during the Summer 2023 Market, July 30 – August 3, 2023, at World Market Center Las Vegas.

“The Summer 2023 FIRST LOOK trends reveal how current consumer patterns and emerging technology are influencing a range of product across the gift and home furnishings categories,” said Karen Olson, IMC executive vice president, chief marketing officer. “FIRST LOOK identifies where consumers are now: focused on community while weaving elements of digital influence into everyday living.”

The three Summer 2023 FIRST LOOK Trends are:

COMMUNITY: Come together, right now: Follow up post-pandemic revenge vacations with local celebrations and adventures that expand horizons, vie for discretionary dollars and promote positive change. Community embraces popular post-Covid lifestyle directions – such as gear for pickleball (America’s fastest-growing sport); fashionable tools for the weekend gardener; casual looks in apparel and décor; and easy options for outdoor entertaining. FIRST LOOK low-fuss Community shows the breadth of products at Las Vegas Market.

Product categories for Community are lounge seating, especially portable solutions; poufs; coolers; totes; jewelry; workout gear; personal care; casual apparel for all ages; outdoor entertaining solutions; garden and floral decor; decorative pillows; ornaments; stationery; and seasonal designs.

FANTASY: FIRST LOOK’s color showcase for Summer 2023 examines tech hues drawn from immersive, surreal and abstract visuals, experiences and concepts… think AI design, otherworldly landscapes, gaming and interactive shows. In Fantasy, energizing pinks, purples, greens and blues, plus optimistic mid-tone pastels, adorn both personal and home accessories. Walls and floors present fantastical patterns, while furniture is modern, yet comfortable. Expressive apparel and personal accessories, meanwhile, underscore confidence and a youthful glow.

Relevant products for Fantasy are media consoles; small-scale desks; upholstery, especially in light neutrals, white, sand and top accent hues; wall décor; area rugs; accent pillows and bedding; decorative accessories, especially glass; lighting; and personal accessories, including totes, backpacks, shoulder carryalls and apparel. Additional cues are linear patterns, matte finishes, glass, low-luster metallics, verdant landscapes and contemporary floral patterns.

REALITY: FIRST LOOK gets real with a kitchen/dining/family room backdrop that imagines an influencer’s workspace. Routine tasks – prepping food, making ice, applying makeup, cleaning, organizing, folding – are built up in Reality to become compelling content streams with broad reach. Earthy neutrals and retro, food-inspired hues culled from 2023/24 color palettes are a canvas for this livable, lived-in vignette that elevates the everyday.

Product categories for Reality are furniture; upholstered seating; accent tables; family-friendly area rugs; housewares; household cleaners; personal care; accent pillows; tabletop, especially dinnerware, glassware and table linens; toys; and decorative furnishings done up in warm neutrals.

“The consumer alternates between reality and fantasy every day, and Las Vegas Market’s exclusive FIRST LOOK pinpoints the trends and products that reflect this unique two-step,” said FIRST LOOK curator, Julie Smith Vincenti of Nine Muses Media. “Through furniture, home accessories, gifts, personal accessories and more, the program reveals must-choose colors, compelling patterns, cool finishes and engaging materials.”

All Las Vegas Market exhibitors are invited to submit products for FIRST LOOK consideration. To participate, submit high-resolution imagery (at least 5”x7”, 300 dpi) by May 31, 2023. For more information, visit LasVegasMarket.com/Exhibit/Advertising-and-Sponsorship-Opportunities/Submit-to-First-Look.

FIRST LOOK is the hallmark of Las Vegas Market’s unmatched interactive trend programming. Buyers will have the opportunity to preview relevant Las Vegas Market products in a pre-market webinar on Wednesday, July 19, at 1pm (PDT) and at-market seminar on Monday, July 21, at 12:30pm (PDT). Visual inspiration continues at Market with FIRST LOOK displays in the corridors that connect Building C and EXPO entrances; and in a digital guide. Together these experiences create a roadmap for buyers as they explore Las Vegas Market’s thousands of furniture, gift and home décor lines. Registration and additional information about FIRST LOOK programming is available at LasVegasMarket.com/Explore/News-and-Trends/First-Look.
