Tornado in western Ohio damages Meijer distribution center


TIPP CITY, Ohio — A tornado touched down Wednesday in Miami County and damaged a Meijer distribution center, part of band of strong storms that moved through the area.

The National Weather Service confirms the tornado occurred near West Milton and Tipp City between 5:55 and 6:15 p.m. Further details, including the strength of the tornado, were not available Wednesday night.

Officials with the Weather Service say they received several reports and pictures of tornadoes Wednesday, although only one has been confirmed so far. They say some damage from the storms appeared to be caused by tornadoes.

WBNS Channel 10 reports no one was injured at the Meijer center in Tipp City. A photo posted online shows a section of wall and roof collapsed at the center.

The Weather Service says it has received reports of damage in Darke, Clark, Brown and Hocking counties.

A video posted on Twitter reportedly shows the tornado in Miami County. A photo of the tornado also was posted.
