COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Midlands is experiencing a possible tornado outbreak as multiple warnings have been issued in the Midlands.

CURRENT WARNINGS:

*A tornado warning is now in effect for parts of Lexington, Calhoun, and Orangeburg Counties until 11:15 a.m. People should take cover now! The warning includes the towns of Swansea, Red Bank, and Springdale and the surrounding areas. 

*A new tornado warning is in effect for Lexington, Calhoun, and Richland County until 11:30 . It includes Cayce, Hopkins, South Congaree and Springdale, and St. Matthews.

*A severe thunderstorm warning is in effect for Richland, Lexington Calhoun, Orangeburg, and Sumter Counties until 11:15 a.m. The line in Richland/Lexington counties could produce winds up to 70 MPH.

A tornado watch remains is in effect for the entire Midlands until 2 p.m. this afternoon. Showers are likely through the early afternoon hours and some storms will be possible. A few of the storms could be strong or even severe. The weather will improve this evening. Mostly sunny skies are forecast for Thursday. Friday will be sunny and a little cooler.

Watches are issued by the Storm Prediction Center for counties where tornadoes may occur. The watch area is typically large, covering numerous counties or even states.

Showers and storms will quickly move from west to east through the early afternoon hours today. Once the main line of storms moves through your area, the threat of severe weather will end for you.

A strong, slow-moving cold front will cross the area later this evening and tonight, this will help clear our skies out overnight. Lows will be in the upper 40s to lower 50s Thursday morning.

Friday will be sunny and seasonable with highs in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Saturday will be sunny and pleasant with temperatures topping out around 60 during the afternoon.
