A wildfire on a former golf course in Salem County is now 100% contained at 65 acres, fire officials said Friday.
The fire at the former Holly Hills Golf Course in Alloway Township was contained at 11 p.m. Thursday, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said Friday morning. The fire started Thursday afternoon on what is now the Thundergut Pond Wildlife Management Area.
No one was injured and area residents can expected to see smoke for several days, officials said.
At one point Thursday evening, 15 structures were threatened, but none had to be evacuated. The fire was 10 acres at about 6 p.m. in a previous update.
The 18-hole, semi-private golf course, which sits on Alloway-Friesburg Road, closed on Dec. 31, 2017 and later became state property.
The wildfire was not considered major since it’s didn’t reach 100 acres.
